Today, we want to share a tutorial on how to create 3D texts with only few clicks using blend tool on Adobe Illustrator. From this tutorial you will be able to create diverse 3D alphabets in any designs based on your preference. Are you ready? Let's get started!
1. Creating Your Text
“Typography is the craft of endowing human language with a durable visual form.” ― Robert Bringhurst, ‘The Elements Of Typographic Style’.
First, create your own typography using brush tool to create a path in which you can do any design as you preferred. If you are still running out of idea, we recommend you to try hand written cursive font as it works really well with the 3D effect.
2. Design the Dot
Next, using the eclipse tool to make a circle by dragging your cursor along with pressing shift to create a perfect circle shape. For the size, we recommended you create at 150-200 pt, so that the blend tool could be apply effectively. After finish creating a circle shape, fill in the color with gradient tool with you own choices of color, we recommend not more than 3 color gradients for the best result.
3. Blending the Dots
After finish creating a dot, duplicate it by dragging the shape while clicking the [option] button with a tiny amount of space, as you got a duplicated dot, press [cmd + D] to create more aligned dots. Around 5-7 dots would work the best for this design.
4. Applying The Effect
Next, select all duplicated dots and click [object] -> [blend] -> [make], to blend all the dots together, creating a single stroke. Lastly, selected the blended stroke and the typography path click [object] -> [blend] -> [reverse spine] to create the 3D text result.
This tutorial is fun and easy, for beginner to intermediate user. As you able to understand the tool, feel free to apply the technique to any design as you wish. You can share your designs along with our community at @sweetto0thclub.
